The Secret of Roan Inish (1994)
Directed by John Sayles
Mini Review:

I've been putting this one off for years. Not sure why. I'm so glad I finally made myself sit down and a give it it a watch. The story of a girl who suspects that her baby brother has been 'stolen by seals' does not seem appealing at first but the sheer execution of it, the loving way in which the tale develops, is absolutely captivating. The charming cast coupled w/ the fantastic visuals of cloud covered Ireland make this one that I would definitely put on my shelf. Key sequences of this film reduced me to tears of motherly sentiment and I adored the simple way that the cast involved the viewer in their respective plights without overdoing the dramatics.

My rating: 8.5/10
